The end of 2011 marked a busy time for me and the WB. We’d been having issues with our network host this fall, so we decided to move off Grou.ps and back onto Ning—where we started, I know! But this time, it’s for keeps. (I hope!)
Several Write-Brainiac “elves” assisted me in the moving process during the month of December (thanks, guys–you’re the best!), and I unveiled the new network Jan. 1. Here it is, if you’d like to check us out (and I hope you will!): http://writebrainednetwork.ning.com/
For all current WB members, please make your way over to the new community and start using it exclusively. I will allow a few weeks of transition time, in case you want to move any of your discussions, photos, blog posts from the Grou.ps site to Ning, but I will be deleting the Grou.ps WB site come Jan. 16. So be sure to pack your bags and get over to the new WB asap!
Also beginning this month, the WB has a brand new Web site and logo—I couldn’t be more excited!
The Web site will serve as a landing place for anyone trying to find out info about us and will be updated with all our latest news. Here is that URL: http://writebrainednetwork.com.
Please update your Favorites and Bookmarks accordingly. :)
In terms of our new logo, see above. Inky Fresh Press’s Bridgid Gallagher made my decision very difficult by creating so many awesome logo choices!
We’ve got a lot in store for the WB in 2011, and I’d love to have you be a part of it!
- there are creepy weirdos on Twitter
- Jefferson Davis is not, in fact, the same person as Abraham Lincoln
Yes, those are kind of inside jokes, but you see? I made writer friends with whom they are inside jokes! So, YAY!
I learned one or two other things as well, and I will be sure to blog those in the coming weeks. ;) But seriously, I was thrilled to have been a part of such a nice conference, and I’m even more excited that it’s within driving distance from good old H’burg!
If you’ve been toying with the idea of checking it out or with getting involved with an online writing community, I hope you’ll give us a whirl. It’s a great group of writers, who are always willing to help out one another. We’ve got subgroups by geographical area and genre, forums, bloggity and linkerly (wha??) resources, monthly live chats, writing programs, a critique corner, contests, we’re planning an IRL workshop for 2011 (!) . . . and just general awesomeness.
If you’re a write-brained individual, check us out—I mean, where else are you going to fit in society? We’re all pretty much screwed, so we might as well stick together! :)
I promise not to become obnoxious with the pimpage, but if you join us and can assist in spreading the word, I’d def be grateful.
Just a reminder, you’ve got until 11:59 PM EST on Friday, Oct. 15 to get your gnome puns in the comments of my review of Chuck Sambuchino’s How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack. The best one (winner chosen by me) will receive either a query or up to 5-page critique from the Class 1 gnome slayer himself.
If your entry doesn’t post for some reason, e-mail it to me at ricki [at] rickischultz [dot] com.
Last week, I announced the emerging of The Write-Brained Network, my online writing organization (formerly Shenandoah Writers Online).
YOU ARE INVITED
I’d like to extend a formal invitation to anyone out there stumbling upon this blog post who is a writer and who has not yet checked us out. I’d love to meet you—virtually or otherwise. :)
We are doing some cool things, and I’ve love to have you be a part of them:
- We currently have four satellite chapters starting up throughout the country—soon to be six!
- Three members have also started subgroups by genre—currently, for YA (YAwesome Writers), horror writers (The Dark Ones), and literary writers (Literary Lovers)
- As well, we are in talks about putting on an IRL conference possibly as early as next year!
Like I said—cool things happening. I could not be more of a proud mama bear. :)
This is our third month doing WordWatchers, and while we’ve had participation every month, I’d like to up the ante a bit for September.
One winner will receive a 10-page manuscript critique from moi, and one will receive ONE of a number of SIGNED BOOKS (I finally got my box o’ plunder back from the RWA conference, and there’s a ton of great stuff available in there—details forthcoming)!
To be eligible, all you have to do is:
1) Be a member of the Write-Brained Network.
3) Log your progress on the WB group wall and/or in the September WordWatchers discussion in our WB forum.
+1 entry for setting a goal and participating (publicly)
+1 entry for every day you log your writing progress
+5 entries for every week you HIT your weekly writing goal
+3 entries for every person you invite to join the WB (who joins!) between now and the end of the month*
*You will have to let me know if you invited someone and they joined or if you’ve blogged/Tweeted about the WB—I’m not a mindreader!
At the end of the month, I’ll have you tally your entries, send them to me, and I’ll pick two winners.
